1840 Amistad and 1800-1865 Emancipation Proclamation

    • In 1849, Abraham Lincoln believed that the slaves should have a sense of freedom and be emancipated (Which means- set free, esp. from legal, social, or political restrictions), so he decided to come up with the Emancipation Proclamation which was a program that let the slaves set free without anyone having anything to say or anyone to challenge the program. In order to get support from the masters and the legislators he proposed that the slaveowners be compensated (Which means- recompense someone for loss, suffering, or injury) for giving up there property which they were referring to the slaves. Then in September of 1862, after the union's victory President Lincoln issued a degree stating that, " Unless the rebellious states returned to the Union by January 1, freedom would be granted to slaves within those states ". Then The day came on January 1st ( New Years ) Lincoln introduced the Emancipation Proclamation, which to the United States it meant " All persons held as slaves within any States, or designated part of the State, the people whereof shall be in rebellion against the United States, shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free. " And till this day this law has been up and it is the face of The United States Of America. This Law Helped and allowed the African Americans to go into the US Army and serve the country that they have family and friends in.
